We have had much of a winter this year, but since it has arrived a little bit I thought I would share my favourite things about winter.

Check out this amazing obstacle course set on water. It was created by German watersports company Wibit Sports. Lots more at Contemporist, including a video. This looks like so much fun to play on, for kids and adults alike.
How neat is this!? A floating bonsai! Now this would be a conversation starter. Check out a video on the Floating Bonsai here. I think I need one of these in our house!
This past weekend we visited the Evergreen Brick Works. If you have never been it's definitely a neat place to check out. There are great paths to go for hike, and lots of fun little gardens to explore, as well as a store and coffee shop. And every weekend there are a ton of activities. While we were there we browsed through the weekly farmers market and had some lunch sitting out in the beautiful sun by the pond. There was also an Etsy market going on this weekend that was fun to wander around. I even picked up a cute fox bib for the baby. It was a super fun afternoon out!
Well, it was pretty cloudy last night but we managed to capture a few photos of the lunar eclipse. We also caught some of those pesky clouds in time lapse photos too. Even though we didn't get to see much of the eclipse, it was still fun to try and to take part. Especially with a glass of wine and cinnamon pecan buns I had just pulled out of the oven (more on that later this week).
Keeping with the big changes theme, I have redesigned my website for the first time since it's conception. I'm really happy with the more open layout and bigger photos. I also tweaked all the pages as well, so take a look! Lots more posts in the works!
The last couple of weekends we have continued along the Waterfront Trail. We have made it into Ajax, to the Rotary Park. As far as we have gone, it's still all gorgeous paths along Lake Ontario. I'm so happy we choose to move out East. All the waterfront is public space and parks (instead of private houses) that we can enjoy. Still continuing the exploration!
The bathroom renovation is coming along quite nicely. We have the sink up, and all the pluming done. Exciting! Hopefully we will get lots more done this weekend. More on that next week. In-between working on the bathroom, I got to spend some time outside in the beautiful sun doing some gardening. I had bought a few herbs, and decided to plant them by our deck for easy access when cooking in the future. I even added little ceramic name plates for each herb. We have a lot of extra interlocking that was left with the house, so I created a path in the soil to make a separation between the lilies and my herbs. It felt great to work in the garden and get my hands dirty.
We have so many wonderful flowers blooming right now in our front garden, that I've started to cut some and bring them inside. I've placed a bunch of different ones in glasses of different heights. The effect almost looks like a line of botanical specimens for scientific research. They bring some colour and nature into the house, and the best part is they are free!
We decided to go for a long walk on Sunday and explore our area, finally. It was so bright and sunny out, and just hovering around the freezing point, which made it such a beautiful day for an adventure. We found the beach that is near us, and I'm happy to report that is looks amazing! It's not huge, but big enough, and so very sandy! There is a great trail that goes all along the water front. We walked a very small section of it on Sunday. There was a map along the path and it goes on forever, from downtown Toronto to Oshawa. It will be amazing to explore when it gets warmer. Spring will be here soon, and we can't wait to get our bikes out! We are 100% happy with the new area, there is so much to do!
Just thought I would share some photos of this crazy amount of snow we have been getting! It came in two waves. First one came last Saturday, and we decided to go out for a walk in the beautiful snowfall and ended up building a snowman! So much fun! He sits right at our backdoor, which was a little frightening at night when I kept thinking someone was standing there. Then over the last couple of days all that snow basically melted in the sun. Last night when we went to bed there was no snow on our railings. Then this morning there was about 15cm! And it is still falling! So much snow, and so pretty! This is all that's left of our snowman. He looks like he is facing the other way now. I don't know, that might be scarier, looks like he might turn around at any moment. Snow, snow everywhere! So nice to look at and venture out for photos. However, so glad I don't have to drive anywhere today. If you are venturing out in this, stay safe! Hope you find something to enjoy in all this white stuff!
